Welcome to Dog and Scone the dog cafe in Newcastle.

Dog and Scone is a heaven for dog lovers, where you can enjoy delicious cakes, coffees and teas all in the company of our resident dogs.

We know in this busy world it’s not easy for every dog lover to own a dog, so we want to provide a place where you can have a nice cup of tea and relax with our cute pooches.

Our cafe has a garden themed design aimed to create exactly the environment you need to relax, and what could be better than spending that time with our friendly four-pawed friends!

About Us

Background

Dog cafes first began to open 20 years ago and have been on the rise ever since, spreading to Japan, China, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong, Australia and the US over the past 10 years.

Dog cafes are public spaces where people can pay for a drink and some food with dogs around. We want to bring this special experience to the UK, and more specifically, we want to bring it to Newcastle. With CatPawCino and Mog on the Tyne already offering Newcastle’s cat-loving residents a place to make feline friends, we’d love to provide this experience for dog lovers too.

However, dogs are not like cats: they don't stay in the cafe overnight; all the dogs in our cafe will be back home with us every night.

Owner – Sean Shi

I am an owner of 6 dogs, and yes I am a dog lover! I got my first dog Momo, a toy poodle, in 2014 and since then our family has grown and grown!

Since I visited a dog cafe in Asia, opening one of my own has been my dream. I started to plan opening my own dog cafe when I was a university student, and I spent a lot of time researching how to make my dream come true.

It took over a year to find and decorate a cafe so that it was comfortable for both our customers and our dogs. Finally, after a lot of time and effort my cafe Dog and Scone was born; now I can work with my dogs and I don't have to leave them alone when I go to work!

House Rules

Dear customers:
We want to give our dogs the best place to stay, so please follow the rules:

  • Please don't put the dogs on the tables.
  • Take care of your belongings to avoid damage.
  • The dogs like sitting on your laps, so please put one of our blankets on your legs first to avoid dog hair getting on your clothes.
  • Do not pick up the dogs when they are sleeping.
  • Be gentle with the dogs.
  • Do not pull the dogs’ tails.
  • Do not feed the dogs.
  • You are welcome to take photos but please turn off the flash.
  • Supervise children at all times.
  • Please take good care of your food, especially chocolate as it will make the dogs ill.
  • Do not bring your own treats to feed the dogs.

Thank you! We look forward to welcoming you at our cafe and hope that you enjoy your time with our dogs!

FAQ's

How about your dog’ welfare?

We have a dog rest room in the cafe which has food, beds, drink and a toilet inside. There is also a ventilation system in the cafe. All the dogs have check-ups regularly at Vet4Pet by the Metrocentre, and they also have worm and flea vaccinations when they need them. They have baths every two weeks and get groomed every 6-8 weeks.

Will the dog stay in the cafe overnight?

All dogs are back home with us every night where they can play in the garden.

What is your policy on hygiene?

As our kitchen is in the basement we have kitchen staff who work there during working hours. Because of this the staff don't access any place where the dogs have been to avoid bringing dog hair etc into the food preparation area.

Can I bring my own dog?

Unfortunately, visiting dogs are not allowed in the cafe, as we can’t make sure our resident dogs and visiting dogs will get on well with each other.

Are children allowed in the cafe?

Yes, children taller than 120cm are allowed in the cafe and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

What if I am allergic to dogs?

If you are allergic to dogs we recommend that you avoid visiting Dog and Scone until you have visited your GP.
